Colts is right, i have a huge dislike for indianapolis. It is the most overrated city in the country, IMHO. Any comparison to it and chicago is a joke.
How so? Just because you don't like the city? I provided more than one example how the cities are similar and you have yet to prove how the two are polar opposites.
And by the way, I know of some friends from college who are from Chicago and now live in Indy and like it here. One of them grew up in the city and loves it here because it isn't Chicago. Of course, that probably tears you up inside.
To the OP, in what sense of the word 'rival' do you mean? Culturally? Industrially? Economically?
It seems to me as if no-one is competing with Chicago on any level, with the possible only exception of it's own suburbs. Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Kansas City are all really too far to take anything away from Chicago (and vise-versa). That's why I threw out Milwaukee (which for me was just a WAG), as both cities offer almost the same regional-wise (but culturally different). Those who want to do business or move to the region would have both to choose from.

The simple turh is that NYC on the east coast does not consider itself to have rivals. Neither does LA on the west coast. They have envious, less well-known alternatives. Wannabees, if you will.
In the midwest, those alternatives are Milwaukee, Detroit and St. Louis. Chicago does not consider them serious rivals.

Ya, it does sound snobbish but it's not a big deal because everyone knows Boston and San Fran have all the class and culture that the enormous bi-coastal ****holes lack. Chicago is way too cool to be in league with LA and NYC. Be proud of that.

What am I talking about? What are you talking about? You said you know someone from Chicago who now lives in Indy, and that probably "tears him up inside" knowing that fact. I think its the other way around. I think it tears YOU up inside knowing that Chicagoland attracts FAR more people than Indy. And its a public forum, so whenever you post something, other people here (myself included) will share our opinions, without you having to "ask for it".
I agree, St. Louis is definately more insular than any of the Midwestern cities, so doesn't really fit in anywhere, kind of in its own world. I would even say that Kansas City fits in more than stl with the other midwestern/great lakes cities even though its farther away. That's the vibe I get everytime I go down there, especially in the summer where it feels like the rainforest. Half southern, half eastern, half western, half northern, mississippi valley. Afj will disagree with me here, but I think stl geographically and a bit culturally is in the same "region" as louisville, cincinatti, memphis, tulsa, nashville, maybe kansas city and new orleans?.
BUT there is the cards cubs rivalry (im a cubs fan), and stl is the city we hate every summer. "Cards take it in their Pujols." ....we'll beat them this year again

The Cubs will probably be better than the Cards this year, but I'd rather take the 10 World Series championships than winning the division in '07 and '08 with a hundred-year drought. I could tell some Cubs jokes, though. Like how they should cover Wrigley field with newspaper, since the Cubs always look better on paper anyway.
St. Louis is somewhat southern, somewhat midwestern. Seems like it's basically a lot of different regions combined. Makes it unique, I think. I'm more of a small city person, though. I could probably live in or around St. Louis. I'm not sure I could handle a city as big (or expensive) as Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles.
St. Louis is smaller, kind of has its own flavor, but it's still a beautiful city. And the average person, even a young person, can live in St. Louis without having a lot saved up.

You're so arrogant that it isn't even funny...in fact it's actually pretty sad.
Normally, I don't have problems with people responding to my posts UNLESS they're intentionally trying to cause trouble, as is the case with you. You do this every time you respond to my posts, which is why I have a problem with it. I don't know if you think you're funny (because you aren't), or you have comprehension issues or what, but you really need to stop spinning my posts out of context. And these are like the smallest jokes and trivial statements. Could you really be that insecure?
See, here's the difference between you and me. I couldn't care less who moves where and how many of them there are. I have no connection to Indianapolis other than the fact that I attended college there and am a fan of the football team, so saying things like "Chicago will always be superior to [insert Midwestern city here]" does not bother me one bit. It simply shows how immature and arrogant you are. I grew up in Rockwood, MI, went to college in Indy, spent some time in both Chicago and Atlanta, and now live in Fort Wayne. How you continue to unnecessarily throw Indy into the conversation is beyond me. Respond to that.
I could just as easily go on and on about how New York and Los Angeles are superior to Chicago, but that would only lower myself to your level and provoke you further. You and your boy "warrior" have quite a bit of growing up to do.
