My family mailed us a letter from Spokane, WA to Memphis TN
How long does it take to get here. It has been 6 days now?

My only usage of USPS is to mail some bills that charge for on-line transactions, but my experience is 3-4 days just about anywhere in the U.S. 6 days seems a little long.

That seems a little long to me as well, but also I find that cross country mailings can differ greatly. I live in Burlington VT, and my parents live in Portland, OR. Most of the stuff they mail me comes in 3 or 4 days. But I've also gotten mail in 2 days, and I have also had a few mailings take almost 2 weeks. So that seems longer than average, but I wouldn't worry quite yet.

Agreed! I used to live in Caribou, Maine and had friends in San Diego, CA (about as far apart as you can get and stay in the lower 48.) Usually 4 days, sometimes 2 or 3; sometimes 15 or 16 days. Never can tell really. I wanted to overnight something to them one time, and the people in the Post Office laughed at me . I wouldn't worry too much for another couple of days.

IIRC the official guarantee from the USPS is that First Class Mail will be delivered in 3-5 days. For fun, ask them what happens if it doesn't reach its destination by then. After all, they "guarantee" it. (Hint: you don't a refund.)

I sure will ask them that.
I know I don't get a refund. But it was a check that was mailed to me so the person that wrote it have to stop payment and remail another check. Pain in the ass.

I have wondered about this also. I know last month I mailed my Insurance payment to State Farm's Insurance Center in Dallas. I live in Portland, Oregon, I mailed it on a Tuesday at 7pm and the State Farm office cashed the check the next day. I have no idea how that check got from Portland at 7pm, travel all the way to Texas and be processed and clear the bank in basically less than 24 hours. Thankfully I wasn't mailing a bill before I had the money in the bank. I have sent mail to Florida and it doesnt show up there for a week. I guess we never really know how long mail takes from point to point.
