I voted for Detroit, and I've never been there. Never been to many of those places. But, when I think of Detroit, I don't think of it as somewhere I'd want to go. I think of car factories and crime. I have no experience that causes me to think that way, it's just from the little bit of news I've ever heard about Detroit.
Everywhere else would be somewhere I think I could find some interest about. I thought quite a few on the list were touristy type places, though.
I think that Detroit would be a fascinating city to tour at the moment. One could visit "Amerian Ruins", emerging artist communities or even "tour" old mansions for sale in neighborhoods that housed the greatest generation in their heyday. One could use Detroit to tour the auto industry and even use it as a jumping off point to a day-trip into Canada. One could also take a self guided culinary tour of its middle eastern neighborhood restaurants. Those are just off the top of my head.
I'd vote for Laredo if you are counting American tourists only because it's so isolated & far south down on the border.
But, if you are including crossover visitors from Mexico, then it would not be my choice.
In that case, then Shreveport is a good second choice here.
I think Detroit would be very interesting to visit. Other cities on the list I'd love to see are Boise, Spokane, SLC, and Providence. I wouldn't go and spend a week downtown but would include a visit with an outdoorsy type vacation nearby.
Detroit has very high crime, but it's a wonderful place to go for vacation. The DIA is one of the best museums in the country. There's also great food, casinos, sports, sailing, and really neat architecture.
Agreed - Detroit shouldn't have any votes here. It's actually a fun and fascinating city just dripping with arts and culture.
Fort Wayne, IN. I can't imagine why anyone would go there. Same with Lubbock, TX.
At least Amarillo has The Big Texan, which is a pretty big tourist attraction, even though it's surrounded by absolutely nothing.
Not sure why Boise, St. Louis, or Madison would be on the list. They all have quite a lot going on, as does Detroit being the center of a pretty major metro area which has lots of attractions.
Hmm, a lot of these places I could see people not choosing to visit (sans a few places like St. Louis, Detroit, Providence, Madison, SLC). My gut reaction was to say Lubbock, Texas. It is just so out of the way of, well, ...anything.
