Clarkston Washington and Lewiston Idaho. It never snows, and if it does, it melts the same day. But its hundreds of miles inland from the Pacific, and further north than Minneapolis or Montreal. But the college towns of Moscow and Pullman, only 30 miles away and up on the plateau, get heavy snow all winter.
Sacramento - has Comfortable and Cool SUMMER late evening, night, and morning temperatures from 56-62 degrees on average.
The NorCal coast is quite cool with low clouds and fog in the Summer. Those cool winds, fog and low clouds funnel their way north and east through the Sacramento Delta to dramatically cool the City of Sacramento directly in the Summer in the evening, night and morning.
An average heat index temp of 85-90F during the warmest part of the day cools down to 55-62F by morning.
Of all the larger metro areas above 1.5 million population, Sacramento has the 3rd or 4th coolest evening, night and a.m. temperatures in the Summer.
The heat index in Sacramento in the summer averages 3-5 degrees cooler than actual temp during the warmest part of the day because the humidity is dry 15-20% but not bone dry like the southwest.
In the midst of these recent cold outbreaks, it can be quite easy to forget how warm the Eastern US naturally is.
-To start off with, the presence of the Gulf of Mexico creates a huge indentation into Eastern North America, allowing year-round maritime, subtropical conditions to extend as far inland into the continent as even Southern Illinois; the year-round warm, lush swamps growing in Southern Illinois prove the existence of such moderate conditions.
I would like to clarify that those swamps are in the southernmost part of Illinois, and not Southern Illinois in general. Southern Illinois, over all, can and does get quite cold. The Illinois suburbs of St. Louis, for example, are currently buried in snow.
The difference between a swamp and a marsh, is that a swamp is a wetland that is forested. It has nothing to do with the climate, and Canada has plenty of swampland that meets the definition as well as anyplace in Illinois.

Back to the original topic, Flagstaff Arizona gets more snowfall each winter than Buffalo. Only Syracuse and Anchorage get more snow than Flagstaff.

Some people think Kentucky has mild winters because we're mostly a Southern state in culture but winters can be brutal. A couple weeks ago we got a foot of snow and some places recorded air temps as cold as -32F! There were icebergs floating down the Ohio River. Ice storms are also common. Some winters we're no better off than Detroit.

Of course, Sitka never gets warm, and Philadelphia's springs and summers are much warmer. Sitka stays cool the whole year, while Philly's weather is much more variable-- hot summrs, cold winters.
I'm not sure if this is shocking or not, depending on the reader, I suppose, but Minneapolis, MN can and does get hot during summertime. The July 30-year average high is 84 degrees and can range from the low 80's to low 90's some years, on average (2012 was one such year).
It's not very shocking if you group Minny with other Midwest cities like Chicago and Detroit, which can get equally hot during summertime, but for some people they hear about the cold in MN and just assume that it's cold/cooler all year 'round. One city that sort of shocked me was Fargo, which can also get quite hot during the summer, and even colder during winter!

The summer I spent in Minneapolis, it hit 90s either once or twice. We had a lot of days that flirted with 90s but overall I considered it a "cold" summer compared to other parts of the midwest like Chicago, or Detroit.
But pleasant nonetheless.
