Well, we have considered many more places than those listed- but now we are down to those on the poll.

Plus, we went to UConn.

We have UCONN fans here a few but not many. Its cheap here but I am moving to Nashville soon and I actually met quite a bit of NYers and New England transplants when I visited Nashville I was shocked they had so many.

I'm sure those few UConn fans were ecstatic last March

Good luck in Nashville- I've heard great things and I'm not surprised that there are many transplants.

However, that area is just not for us.

You still haven't answered my question, why are you excluding out Northern Virginia? It has the best job market in the state.

You mentioned Richmond as well and I asked about that- unanswered. I don't understand why you would reply to an inquiry with a question.

Where is the line drawn as to Northern vs. Southern Virginia? I don't want to get too close to DC because I hear that the prices are outrageous- in which case I might as well stay home

Sorry about that, Richmond's economy is actually great. Virginia is a great place for business in general. Although I feel like you will be more happy in Northern VA. I say this strongly because I attended Boston College! Woo! Lived in Boston for awhile after I graduated then lived in Northern NJ. From there I moved back to the DC area, but to Northern Va. Richmond is the most southern out of Virginias big three metros. Although HR is the least desirable even with the beach. So that says something. Unless you are military I don't think HR is a good option. I suggest you make a thread in the northern Virginia forum and ask what are the differences between nova and the rest of va. Also the line ends are Fredericksburg! Also you should state your budget too, even though you're not set on Virginia I think you should really look into it good luck!

Here's the NoVa forum:

Norfolk and the Hampton Roads metro is a vibrant, attractive and diverse area. Check out Coastal Virginia magazine for some insight.
The person posting that it isn't continues to bash this area on the Virginia forums with sophomoric generalities while heaping praise on Northern Virginia, it's getting old, tired and redundant.
There are 1.7 million people living in the Hampton Roads area, that speaks volumes.

Thank you Deluusions for your information and the link!

Also thanks for the insight Poquoson7- I know my FH would strongly prefer the shoreline. Are there any areas in that area with an sort of public transit and/or that are more walkable? Also, what is the climate?

So much good info on Virginia- I'm actually a bit surprised, but in a good way!

1.7 isn't a lot and 60% of the residents are military so they have no choice.

OP: Here is the Northern Va forum.

//www.city-data.com/forum/northern-virginia/

OP: Look at the most recent threads in the Hampton Roads forum. The residents themselves have many things to complain about such as scarcity of jobs without low cost of living.

//www.city-data.com/forum/hampt...-bad-here.html
//www.city-data.com/forum/hampt...s-suburbs.html
//www.city-data.com/forum/hampt...s-lagging.html
//www.city-data.com/forum/hampt...over-last.html

Scarcity of jobs, traffic, a cost of living that's not equivalent to its workforce, bad schools, crime are a few things that make this area undersiable to many. Although Northern VA too has flaws such as really bad traffic and high COL.

The water isn't even blue.
