Do you think California has the most diversity in its population than all other states? I can only think of New York and Texas even coming close but when you talk about many different races in great numbers without one being the majority it has to be California. I mean California's demographics according to the 2013 ACS survey are:
Whites are actually minorities in CA now. But yeah, it's incredibly diverse. Nothing new for most states to have high numbers of hispanics and blacks, but usually the places that have a high Asian population don't have those other races in numbers.

NY and NJ are the exceptions in regards to that last statement. Maybe MD and VA too.
By far & it's not fair to compare any other state to California at this point.
It depends on the group too. Ethnicity is more visible for states in other regions and certain racial groups are more common, while having a diverse populace.
I would add Texas to that as well. 2nd largest White, Hispanic, and Black population and 3rd largest Asian population.
True, as I was thinking of percentage. Given that demographics vary within states, seeing these groups in locations in at least notable numbers is common in parts of the state.
I've always thought that Hawaii was the most diverse.
Hawaii is mostly Asian-American, with a variety of Asian ethnicities (Japenese, Chinese, Filipono, Korean, etc). No different than a majority white state, with a variety of European ethnicities (Italian, Irish, Polish, German, English, Spanish, etc etc). There are almost no blacks and Hispanics in Hawaii.
It depends on how you view diversity. If you see it as "lots of people who aren't white" then, sure. Hawaii has the lowest percentage of whites than any other state. But Hawaii is mostly Asian, which is really no different than a state that is mostly white.
