Most people likely know the mayor of their own city, but how many people know the mayors of other cities? And which mayors are most famous or well known at a national level?

I would have to say Bill de Blasio and Rahm Emanuel agree the top two most well known, with a slight edge to Rahm due to his ties with Obama. I would also throw in Annise Parker for being an openly gay female mayor in the largest city in Texas, Houston.

Those are my three top choices. What are yours and why?

Bill de Blasio without a doubt. NYC mayors are in the news all the time because it's the largest city in America and there's always something going on there. Torontos Mayor is pretty famous as well but that's only because of the crack incident....but that's in Canada.

Bill DeBlasio for the sake of notoriety that comes with NYC by default. I find Houston's Annise Parker more intriguing. I think she's helped a lot of people change their perspective on Houston.

RIP Boston Mayor Menino . He had been mayor of Boston since God was young.

NYC mayoral elections get nationwide coverage to a large degree, so that's my vote.

The answer here must be New York. Giuliani and Bloomberg were very exposed, even internationally, during their terms, which I think can be attributed to 9/11 and the post 9/11 world in NY and the area. De Blasio I find is less exposed in the media now (at first he and his family were overexposed) but he's still very well-known.

Since I live in the metro though I know of many more mayors than the average person outside the NYC area probably would so it's hard for me to say just how popular NYC mayors are in general. I know they get national and international coverage but they also get a ton of local coverage, which I tend to watch more/read more and gives me a bias on how exposed they are. But I do think that no matter who the mayor is, it's probably New York that has the most famous one at all times.

The most well known mayor at any given time is usually the mayor of NYC, but at the moment I think Emmanuel is better known than de Blasio because of his stint as Obama's chief of staff.

I am honestly surprised people outside of NYC know of de Blasio, since he is not that popular even in the city itself. I know people knew of Bloomberg and Giuliani though. I'd agree that Emmanuel is the most well known mayor currently... de Blasio is a 1 term mayor hopefully.

De Blasio has done/said so many idiotic things that I think even the media stopped caring and wanting to report on the idiocy. For a while there, when he first was elected, they were obsessed with him. Now, not so much.

Yeah, the only mayors I've ever heard of are Giuliani and Bloomberg.
