The B route is wha every tourist does and C is too southern, not bad just not all representative. Take the A route.

A has you spending way to much time on Greyhound.

How about Chicago> Memphis > New Orleans > Atlanta (Birmingham as alternate stop) > Charlottesville (if you want to experience a smaller college town) > DC > Philadelphia > Pittsburgh > Cleveland > Chicago.

As a tourist myself and having visited a large proportion of these places I would go route A.Good old Midwest grounding. Routes B&C can come in good time.
