roanoke - star city of the south (because of big lit up star on mill mountain)

plus it was formerly named "big lick" before roanoke i think because of salt licks in the area....( i have to admit that the name big lick kinda makes me laugh, i am so glad they changed it!)

or "the noke" to locals

"The Q" sees some usage, but is not widely used.
What I can't stand is "the 505" which references the local area code....but I will write or text "ABQ" sometimes.
