City by the Bay
The City
San Fran
Baghdad by the Bay
and never "Frisco"[/quote]
I hate to take it there, but it depends on the demographic. White San Franciscans get all up in arms about "Frisco" but the black population of the city (what's left of it) especially young people, call it Frisco or The 'Sco.
Cincinnati's true nickname is "Queen City", going back to its emergence in the 19th century.
Don't forget "Porkopolis"

In reading through this reopened thread. For Chicago I've seen Windy City and a couple others. But NO "SECOND CITY".
Some claim it denotes second to NYC? It works too. But it dates back more to the time just after the "Great Chicago Fire". Then it denoted a NEW SECOND CITY (from a first) rising from the ashes. That still works today.
Right about Second City. Our nickname that is NYC related is "Windy City". Chicago, still a backwards city of the plains, had bid along with NYC to be host for the World's Columbian Expedition in 1892 (400th anniversary of Columbus landing in the Americas). Brash and bragging Chicago was able to seal the deal based on the hype it created about itself. NYC referred to Chicago as "that windy city" because of it.
