In other words, many Bama and Auburn people are wearing apparel abroad that invoke images of state pride, when really its primarily touting their college football fandom. Here's what I mean:

The 'necks have begun to flash this stuff wherever they go, and you can see the room for double interpretation thereon. These fads notwithstanding, you will find an abnormal amount of Alabama imagery on products (everything from mugs, towels, and plates to bumper stickers, clothes, and beer bottles) and within other modes of expression (tattoos, art, etc) in this state. I don't know if we're any more prideful than the next state, but I can tell you that we actively market it.

...robbed a store with a squirtgun and was knocked unconscious slipping on a patch of water in the act

And so on. People noticed it was "a Florida man" by a much greater percentage than anywhere else, and the joke turned into a cultural phenomenon. For many who have never been there, "Florida Man" has become their picture of the state.

My beautiful Louisiana!
Be it hurricanes, floods, oil spills, a tough climate, swamps, crime, poverty, we tenaciously cling to this beloved land.
The culture and uniqueness throughout the state is definitely a source of deep pride and identity.

Texas was once its own nation, and, even today, is not a "state" in the same sense that the rest of the lower 48 are.

Texas' pride and heritage is truly unique and unmatched by any other.
