Urban sprawl. Lived there for over 15 years. Not walkable. Public transportation has improved but is still poor, you absolutely need a car. Brutal summers. As far as beach, well, the Texas coast is within 7 hours, but it's not worth visiting.

Except for the beach proximity Louisville is exactly what you are looking for. And you know what- it might be close enough to the Indiana Dunes to get your beach fix. Definitely research them before you rule out Louisville.

A little about me, I'm in my early 20's, still in school, and have lived in metro Atlanta my entire life. I'm currently studying Business Admin/Managment and would like to go into something along the lines of either consulting (marketing/PR based), relationship-based sales, or marketing. I know marketing is a broad term; I have experience in guerilla marketing, and I enjoyed that, but I also would consider advertising and PR. As for what I'm looking for in a city, I want to live somewhere that is both urban and walkable, but the entire city doesn't have to fit these characteristics. However, cities like NY, Boston, and SF are not options because of how high the COL is there. If you guys are familiar with Atlanta, I really love Buckhead. The stretch of Peachtree Rd between Lenox Rd and Roswell Rd is just awesome. I love the energy and walkability of the area. Basically, I'm looking for a city where I can live an affordable lifestyle in an urban and walkable neighborhood with other young professionals. Out of college, I'm expecting to make around $50k a year. When it comes to my interests, I'm a big sports fan; I love going to games and I would love a city that has at least two professional franchises. My weekend scene is more sports bars with friends instead of clubs. I'm also a big live music fan, especially rock, EDM, and jazz. I also am an active individual and love to play sports as well. A beach within driving distance (6-7 hours) is a necessity. I really dont like the cold; I can tolerate mild winters, but i would probably die in a city like Minneapolis. Lastly, im a libertarian so I would like to live somewhere that doesn't have an overbearing govt passing nanny laws like soda bans. Some cities I've visited and really liked were: Chicago, Nashville, and Pittsburgh. Having said all that, any places come to mind? Thanks in advance for all the help.
Given all of your criteria, I would suggest Baltimore.

Check out Indianapolis. Cost of living is cheap and lots of sports fans. No ocean beaches within 6-7 hours but Lake Michigan beaches are within that range. The only thing that doesn't fit your criteria is cold winter weather, although it's not as bad in Indy as it is in points north.

Chicago is great for PR; Weber Shandwick, the world's largest PR firm, is headquartered there. Plus, Lake Michigan during the summer is a great beach to hit up. This is really your best option if you're looking for something truly different from Atlanta.
