I am looking for awesome mountain towns out west. I recently ended an 8 year relationship with someone who lived in Boulder, CO and I had to move back home to Maryland. I am looking for to relocate to a place similar (doesn't have to be in CO at all). I loved how Boulder was situated in the mountains and was very clean and neighborly. What I didn't' like was the lack of cultural diversity; i.e. Everyone there was either super wealthy, a student, or an ex student who stayed behind and became hipster (not that I am against that, i'm just saying).

I am looking for a fresh start in a town with the same boulder feel but more conducive for a mid to late 20 male.

Suggestions and explanations would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Chris

i'm from san diego and you have mountains, beach and desert all doable in a day..for a 20 something single dude, that's the life! we've relocated out here to southern va and have lots o' mountains around us but probably not that exciting to a young single guy...unless you were in a college town, which are many in this area....good luck! how exciting!

Boulder is probably the best "hip" town like that IMO. Lots of young people and fun stuff. Other than that, try Portland OR or Salt Lake City.

Smaller (Less than 25k): Taos, NM...

Moderate (25k to 100k): Charlottesville, VA; Flagstaff, AZ; Santa Fe, NM; Bellingham, WA...

Large (More than 100k): Knoxville, TN; Eugene, OR...

If you'd like to go somewhere smaller, like dude1984 mentioned, Taos is a nice little town! Around 5,000 people in the beautiful Enchanted Circle of Western New Mexico with Wheeler Peak in its backdrop. It has a Walmart, etc. too.

Missoula Montana is very much like Boulder without the pretentiousness. Missoula is real similar to Flagstaff as well. Bozeman Montana is nice also but doesn't quite have the feel of Missoula.

Back east, Boone or Ashville NC. Johnson City, TN, Morgantown, WV,

i was thinking also of Taos but it may be too small for you.
Missoula sounds about right and comparable to Boulder in some ways. Flagstaff isn't really a mountain town and is not as appealing as Missoula.
