As a resident of Northern Cali, I say split the state into 2 parts. Currently people refer to Southern California and Northern California anyway..
2 new states..
1, California
2, Southern California
3, Northern California
To make up for this and keep the same US flag and avoiding another change, I joined some of the weaker states together to make them into strong, more wealthy states in the long run.
states merged - part 1
1, Georgia
2, South Carolina
3, Tennessee
4, Alabama
state name & state flag = Alabama
state capitol = Atlanta
states merged - part 2
1, Mississippi
2, Louisiana
state name & state flag = Louisiana
state capitol = Baton Rouge
states merged - part 3
1, West Virginia
2, Virginia
state name & state flag = Virginia
state capitol = Richmond
Here is a picture of what the new union of states would look like..
How is Georgia a "weaker state"? It has been one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S. for a while now and is ranked 8th currently. Georgia's GDP is 10th in the nation. I think we would prefer to stay separate, thank you very much.
My hope is that a lot of people won't put too much thought into this. It's like playing "Let's Pretend" as children.
It doesn't take much thought to see the separation between Georgia and the other three states mentioned for a possible merger. Why would Georgia ever want to do that?
41 states not involved +3 California's+3 new states=47 states, so how again would we not need to change the flag?
The only reason this could possibly happen is a Democratic play to have a majority in the Senate by taking 2 California seats and making it 6 and taking 10 republican Seats and making it 4. And then The Virginia thing.

None of the states would be down for it...too much state pride for one.
You have to be mental if you think Louisiana wants Mississippi, if anything, cut off everything north of Opelousas and give that to Mississippi.
