I've always found it interesting that Minneapolis is the most German major metro in the US and they are the largest group here, but it is more known for Scandinavians. Probably because there are Germans everywhere but only a couple of places in the country have significant Scandinavian populations.
That was on my mind when I picked Milwaukee over Minneapolis for Germans. I know know Germans are more prevalent in Minneapolis but no other region of the US has such a large concentration of Scandinavians. And I thought similarly with Cubans when picking between Miami or Tampa. Obviously Miami has more Cubans than Tampa, but Miami has more of almost everything than most cities in the US. Tampa has a huge and long established Cuban community that is ingrained into so much of the city's culture.

But of course I did that and someone rises up to argue. Gotta love internet forums.

I have an idea:

Instead of guessing what ethnicities/nationalities have a large presence in a given city, we can look at actual census statistics. Crazy, I know.

First and foremost there are nearly 1 million Cuban-Americans living in the Miami metro area versus 81,000 in the Tampa Bay metro. It's quite evident where the majority reside, and where the culture is strongest.

There really aren't many Spanish (people from Spain) in the US as they tend to gravitate toward other Spanish-speaking countries and Miami certainly doesn't have any presence to speak of.

There aren't that many Brazilians in Orlando, and by far the largest concentration is in SE Massachusetts (25% of the US population), along with New York City/Newark.

Far and away the most Colombians and Venezuelans are in the Miami metro area.

Nearly half of the Dominican population in the US lives in the NYC metro area, Miami has around 15%.

The NYC metro area has by far the largest Puerto Rican population with 725K, Philadelphia is second with just
121K, Chicago is third with 102K and Orlando is tied for 7th with just 31K
.
U somewhat right about Dominicans. Half of them are in the NYC metro area, the rest are mostly in the metro areas of Boston, Miami, Philly, Orlando, and Providence RI

However, with Puerto Ricans, theres 725k in New York City ALONE, the metro area as a whole has over 1.1 million, another 400k in the Orlando metro, 300k in the Philadelphia metro, and 200k in the Chicago metro. To put it in perspective, the Orlando metro which has about 2 million ppl is about 15% Puerto Rican, compared to the NYC metro which has 20 million ppl is almost 7% Puerto Rican, the Philly metro has about 6 million ppl is over 5% Puerto Rican, and the Chicago metro has about 8 million ppl is about 2% Puerto Rican. The NYC area has a much larger number of Puerto Ricans, but the Orlando area is far more Puerto Rican percentage wise

New York can fill in in any of the nowhere's. Also, I'm sure there are sizeable populations of all of those people in one city or another. I am just going with a gut reaction, like a word association, first-city-to-come-to-mind kind of thing...

How did you decide on these groups, btw? Just curious...

Jewish is a religion, not a singular nationality.
