I'll just take 15% of your paycheck each month then. Don't worry, you will never notice the insignificant loss.

So take a sample population of Rural Coloradons (Group A) and a sample population of Rural Mississippians (Group B)

Group A - lets say you pull 50,000 people - 20 percent of them are obese. that is 10,000 obese people.

Group B - again you pull 50,000 people - 35 percent of them are obese. that is 17,500 obese people.

Looking at a group of 50,000 people, a difference of 7,500 is not going to be that noticeable and it is far from a "drastic difference"

Again its still not a regional difference, it isn't more or less prevalent in one region over the next...

I guess you could technically say there is probably an overall average of a 10 percent higher obesity rate East of the Mississippi vs West of the Mississippi... but what is the point in going on and on about a small difference in something as harmless as other peoples body weight? again the only goal i see in this argument here is just to throw stone at people in certain regions, for whatever reason? i don't know.

Bad analogy, sorry.

Worrying about your money vs Worrying about other peoples body weight?

The whole conversation is ridiculous when you compare the obesity data of the so called "fittest" states to much of Europe and Japan, Korea, Singapore etc, every state is obese in America, just a matter of how obese

15% is only the difference between the very highest and very lowest states There is only a small percentage point difference between West virginia and Mississippi and say Maryland, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Maine, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, etc. The same thing with alot of the city data of the most obese cities

Huntington WV (39.5%); McCallen, Texas (38.3%); Haggerstown, Md. (36.7%); Yakima, Wash. (35.7%); Little Rock (35.1%); Charleston WV (34.6%); Clarksville, Tenn. (33.8%), Jackson, Miss. (33.8%); Green Bay WI. (33.0%); and Rockford, Ill. (33%).

If you want to see really huge differences, compare the supposedly "least obese" American states to the obesity rates of Japan,Norway,Switzerland,Korea and alot of the world.

The so called "least obese" American states and cities are much closer to mexico than the 3% obesity rate in Japan and Korea, 7 or 8% in Switzerland Norway Austria etc. Almost all of the american states are at least 25% and up

So...your problem isn't with the fact that there are noticeable regional differences in obesity (which is good, because this is reality), it's the "calling out" portion? I can understand that. But why continue to throw down the smokescreen, then?

In reality its not a big deal, regional difference? point to me the region.

the difference? not big at all. the greatest being 15 percent.

So when i see all these people calling out a certain state or region for being obese just seems a little disrespectful, strange and hypocritical. it wouldn't be as strange and hypocritical if there was a 30 or greater percentage difference but again the GREATEST difference is a nill 15 percent.
to me its basically like hearing a 250 pound person calling out a 270 pound person for his weight.

Thats funny about the 250-270 analogy and very true when compared to Europe and Asia .Calorie lab has a good site and talked about a small difference in states and regions

Regional Obesity by State Trends
"In general, states in the West and New England rank lowest in the fattest states rankings, while states in the South and the Rust Belt tend to rank highest".

The only somewhat noticeable difference is the western US states rates are lower than most of the eastern states, even the western numbers are horrible when you compare them to Europe and Japan, Korea,Singapore, Hong Kong etc. Americans need to stop looking at each other to judge and really look at countries with good nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

250-270 makes no sense in light of the "15% difference" question, considering a 250 lb person 15% fatter is about 290 lbs, double that amount.

I can tell the difference, pretty clearly, between a 6' 250 lb person and a 6' nearly-300 pounder.

250 pounds for a 6 foot person is still unhealthy, so why would a 6 foot 250 pounder be criticizing someones weight in the first place? shoot why does anyone criticize someones weight? in reality i don't criticize all my friends, family or random people i see on the street who are heavier. i'll do it only as a joke, assuming they have the same sense of humor i do. or when people say i am too skinny.

and i assume its the same for most people, so to me it seems like when people on here want to boost their region or state obesity and other people weight becomes important and they have to push how their state or region has a 10 percent less obesity rate vs another state or region.

Some regions are fatter. Deal with it.
