We all know that the US face numerous criticisms. Of course, there is no perfect place. But while there are things that are reproached that clearly are nationwide (especially if it directly concerns the federal government), there are other criticisms that are actually more present in some regions than others.

Guns and religion, for example. There are definitely more gun-heavy regions (South?) than others, there are definitely more religion-heavy regions than others...

But what other charges that are seemingly levied US-wide are actually more present in certain regions than others?

Materialism.

The coasts in particular embody this to the utmost.

Small-town pastoralism in the rural areas and smaller urban areas, and big-city elitism in the larger urban areas.

I dont necessarily consider it as a criticism as alot of the states with the most guns dont have the most crime, many of them are quite safe. Vermont has some of the most lenient gun laws in the nation and it is not one of the high crime states. Race has to come into the conversation when you are talking about the stats on cities and gun violence and crime

Just about the entire country is materialistic. You can even argue that this demand for things and also the willingness to work to buy them is what built our economy and made the country rich. People on the coasts just have more stuff so inspire jealousy.

I dont think comparing regions does much as they are very alike compared to the rest of the world, you have to live in or really look at the difference between Europe and America to really see how different America is from some place like Europe or even Canada or Australia in terms of what the op was mentioning, guns and religion.

There is no region or state that even come remotely close to Northern Europe on stats for guns or religious belief . Even the most liberal american states are absolutely nothing like /northern or western europe on gun control or religion. 71% of americans, believe in God, even the most liberal state california I think it is like 61%. In northern europe it is like 22-26% in alot of sweden and norway. Every state in America has a strong gun culture, I cant think of any state that has strict gun control laws?

But the numbers of religious "unaffiliated" - particularly among the young - are rising every year. For those born 1980 and later, it is 38% and climbing. And some states, like my own, have "unaffiliated"/"nothing" up in the 50+% range.

I mean materialism in the sense of it being the absolute top priority. People who make friends based on hand-bags.

I would say, if anything, the coasts are stereotyped as a bit less materialistic, maybe excepting Miami.

Someplace like Dallas is typically a lot more showy than someplace like Boston or Seattle.

Maybe in the case of those two cities but believe you me, NYC, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New jersey... massive materialism.
