The only part I liked about Greenville was the downtown area in terms of feel but I thought it was a bit too small for my taste. That and getting in and out when I wanted was a big hassle (2 lane main street with alot of traffic at all times). I want something with the same feel but larger and has more to offer, like downtown Charleston. I guess it is too late to edit my title to include "for us" lol
I have never been to Birmingham, but took a look at the map and it seems to fit my description pretty well. Is it just as humid as Atlanta? Great downtown area with lots to do? Lots of outdoor activities? How about natural disasters (tornados)?

Birmingham is in the South - it's going to be humid. However, it's on a plateau - it's much more humid on the coastal plain. Yes, downtown has lots to do; the Highlands area has many great restaurants and bars - I like J. Clyde for craft beer. There are several breweries with tap rooms (Good People, Avondale, Cahaba), plus Magic City Brewfest. There are several State Parks, Wilderness areas, rivers, and lakes nearby; the Cahaba River runs through the city (canoeing).
Tornadoes are a serious concern, however they are more of an inconvenience as long as you're not in the path. The good news is that emergency services are usually available since the tornado paths are relatively small (unlike an earthquake or hurricane where large areas are affected). The bad news is that you can die.
I will check those out, although I think Huntsville might be a bit farther from the beach than we wanted. I have heard mixed things about Columbus but I will look into it further
Is Birmingham and Huntsville very religious? What about Asheville and Triangle area?
Well it's the South, which is the most religious part of the country. But Asheville proper and the Triangle are a bit less religious than Birmingham and Huntsville.
Great! Do you think Asheville or the Triangle is better suited for raising a family? Which one has better outdoor activities? I understand that Asheville is much closer to the mountains but Raleigh-Durham seems like it would have much more to offer given its population (and it is closer to the beach). From the research I have done on here, Durham Raleigh Chapel Hill area offers plenty of great hiking trails (something I think we could deal with instead of the mountain scenery) while also within 2 hours of mountains and 2 hours from the beach. How are these for outdoor activities within a short distance (think 30 or less) as far as Which one of these cities would have the most unique culture? Between Jordan Lake and Falls Lake, which one offers more to do (seeing that Jordan is closer to Chapel and Falls and Closer to Durham)??
Thank you everyone for sharing, I really appreciate it. UNC Chapel Hill is near the top on my list of desirable Dental Schools, so we are leaning favorably towards that part of NC. Other cities that seems to stand out is Winston-Salem or Fayetteville (still seem to be 2-3 hours from Mountains), but again the research on here seems to point to the Triangle or Asheville as the best suited area based upon our preferences.
