Texas has a WAY stronger southern vibe than florida does. Florida is more similar to California than Texas is. But none of those three states are similar in my opinion.

Not it isn't and what exactly is a Southern vibe?

And California has a WAY stronger western vibe and ethos than both Texas and Florida. What is your point?

Southern vibe is accent, southern baptist churches, politics, etc.

Point is florida isn't most similar to Texas.

Exactly right. I see the point people brought up when they say Florida is the most similar state to Texas, but even then, both states are lands of their own, with their own unique culture. Same applies for California. That's all there is to it.

Accent? Um the Southern accent exists in Florida. Throughout the state
Southern baptist Churches? There are over a million Southern baptists members and there are dozens of southern baptist churches in Florida. Opposite of California.
Politics? You're must closer to Texas than you are to California.

Politics? Not socially we aren't. Southern accents are very rare in Florida. We speak with a standard American accent, except in Miami where the Southeast Florida accent is becoming popular. Southern Baptists are in California as well. I bet California has more Southern Baptists than Florida does.

If you're black (which I think you are), then I can see how and why you think Florida is Southern.

There are also a few other black posters from the South on City-Data who assert that Florida has lots of Southern culture because their context is Florida's African-American community.

In much of Florida - outside of the South Florida metropolitan area, of course - the African-American community is definitively Southern in accent/dialect, cuisine, faith and other customs and traditions. So if that's your context, I can understand why you think Florida is primarily Southern in culture.

However, outside of the Panhandle, the north-central and inland southern areas of the state (which account for a relatively small portion of Florida's overall population, mind you), most white and certainly Hispanic adults were not born in Florida. And for those that were, very few can trace their roots to other Southern states.

I hate to break it to you, but Southern culture - like any culture - simply cannot exist without the people, and there are very few Southerners in the major metro areas of Florida where most of the state's residents live.

Socially again, you are closer to Texas than you are to California. Much closer. Southern accents are indeed NOT rare in Florida. And BTW, there isn't one Southern accent anyway. As to the notion that California has more Southern baptists than Florida? Nope. Florida has over a million. California has under half a million. In fact, we can go by percentage. The percentage of Southern Baptists in Texas is 14.8 % which is 11th in the nation. Florida's percentage is 6.6% placing it 14th in the nation. California's percentage is 1.3% placing it 30th in the nation. I expect these trends to continue for all three as the Latin and other immigration population start to grow more. If trends continue, less than 10% of Texas could be Southern Baptists sometime in the middle of the next decade if not by 2030.
