The man asked a simple question, and was bombarded with insults, which actually helped him prove his point. How DARE people tell some one about their lives when they know NOTHING about the person.

I am come from a family of Jewish NYers and I live in Nashville, TN. I have mostly felt welcomed here but you still have a few ignorant people who don't know anything about Jewish culture. My gf is white and Latino of Spanish descent, we have about the same skin tone. I am surprised Atlanta is not that welcoming its pretty diverse. You might want to try NYC, LA, Chicago or SF if you want a lot of culturally diversity and socially liberal city but even then you can find a few bigots. Good Luck man.

She's done that. I'm very proud of her.

And yet you get into a defensive rage about it. What is wrong with some one trying to figure out where to live so that he can reduce the impact of this racism, that you know fully well exists.

The original post doesnt make any sense, anyone making those kinds of comments to him in a work place would be looking at getting fired and their company sued? Maybe 60 years ago, but today your company can be sued for anything racial or sexist.

I know there is alot of racism in the world but you can't make blanket statements about downtown and corporate Atlanta, I asked if this was a blue collar work environment but he never answered. Especially downtown Atlanta, home of liberal cnn and one of the more diverse work places in america, it just sounds very made up to me. It is a very zero tolerance policy in almost all businesses today

From my personal experience of Atlanta, I did find the 'whites' to be a little more prone to stick to their own. But this was a while ago and I wasn't there very long. Just several months.

I don't find the OP's claims outlandish. They are unfortunate and something he shouldn't have to tolerate. On other hand, I do get some of the eye rolling going on. (OP would, rather could, hear the same if not worse in either a mixed or racially/ethnically monolithic working class environment.)

In any event, where is HR in all this? if they won't do something, sue 'em! As far as OP's question about areas where 'whites' are more inclusive......the coasts; maybe Chicago; maybe Minneapolis/St Paul.

I wonder if college towns might be an idea? In any event, OP shouldn't have heard any remarks like this. But I do get why ppl are sort of saying, 'get a pair.'

Because I live here, work here, and have been in many different settings across multiple areas of town with co-workers of every ethnicity. Nobody gives a damn about this crap here.

He said this behavior was pervasive in the corporate culture here, and that is a flat out lie. Period.

I find this story very fishy because I live in Nashville which is way less diverse and more socially conservative city I have not had any problems, I guess it would depend on what company you work for.

The kind of behavior he claims is normal here would simply not be acceptable or tolerated in practically any business in Metro Atlanta, especially in a corporate setting.

I'm convinced this was a troll post from the start.

Honestly man it sounds like you landed at a terrible workplace. Most of the South, while not without its problems, and especially Atlanta is actually incredibly welcoming. I live in South Carolina and we get slammed alot on here and nationally, but as someone who actually lives here I can tell you SC is a very welcoming place to all races, ethnic groups, etc. and something like what you are going through would surely be a rarity here. I honestly think that is a rarity in Atlanta too as well as a rarity among the groups of SEC school folks. I was in a fraternity in the south and I can tell you I would have never heard anything like that come out of any of my friends mouths.

Sorry you're going through that and sorry some bad apples are giving you a terrible impression of the south. That's not at all who we are or what we stand for.
