I came here seeking advice about a marital issue when this same issue got me run out of two other message boards, one which actually banned me. I was feeling desperate, alone, horrible. CD posters didn't sugar coat their advice and even though my initial thread was closed, I made an invaluable connection with a sympathetic soul and I know it saved me.
I think it's just that forum. Seriously, I've never heard anyone in the real world express opinions quite like they do on CDP&OC.
Why do I keep going there?
I don't know, I keep going there too, it's like staring at a train wreck... Some of the accounts are so extreme to the point that they might satire or parody accounts, but part of me realizes that sadly, they're probably serious.
I met my husband here on C-D and moved 500+ miles to a different state to be with him and start a new job. I now have a different job that I love, I love where I live and our life together.
Learned tons about different regions of the country. If you really spend time on a certain city forum, you can get a good feel about what's going on there. Then when you visit it either fits or doesn't. Invaluable for someone making up their mind to move somewheres.
I joined so that I could get some advice about potentially moving to Canada. While some people like to troll the Canada forum, many lovely posters have been very helpful. Thanks to city data, I've learned quite a bit about the country, both the good things and the bad ones. I've also gained insight into the world and humanity as a whole.
Moved from Madison, Wisconsin (very great place to spend 18-22) to Denver (very great place to spend 22-35 and possibly beyond). Still in Denver, 30 years old.
You definitely have to sugar coat your advice if you want to stay active in CD. You probably have to say "My experience with this was..." Oh well let people find their own way I guess.
I have learned to only visit the Northside of Chicago, and if I ever want to venture into the Southside, I should put on a bulletproof vest and helmet.
