BTW, our local Home Depot is now enforcing the service code for EMV cards, making it mandatory to use the EMV slot for all chip cards. The EMV slots have been activated for a while now, but until now you were still able to swipe chip cards.
My parents own a small store, and the local technical support guy for the credit card terminal company was coming around to a lot of small businesses and bringing adapters and/or new terminals that can read the chips.
Target is the only place that has been a requirement thus far. I feel like I prefer to use my pin moreso because only I know my pin number. But anyone could have your card and use the chip. It is good for the retailer but really no better for the consumer.

Around here, Walmart has service code enforcement enabled for credit cards, but not for debit cards. I presume the reason for disabling enforcement for debit cards is due to their software not currently supporting debit (online PIN) mode transactions; debit cards currently get processed only in credit (signature for chip-and-signature cards, or offline PIN for chip-and-PIN cards) mode when using the chip at Walmart. Cash back is only possible in debit mode.
Once the EMV software is updated to support debit mode transactions, I presume the service code enforcement will be enabled for both credit and debit cards.
