I am actually quite fond of Knoxville myself! But then I came up country so I prefer a slower pace.

If you want to stay in the south I would recommend Baton Rouge or New Orleans. They are pretty fast paced by comparison to other southern cities and NOLA definitely has a night life.

Houston is also a great choice but it's huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. I'd say the same for Atlanta.

Florida would also offer many opportunities.

OP, is it possible that your dissatisfaction is due to a bad dating scene for middle age females? Is that what you mean by slow paced and boring?

OP = opening post or original poster (in this case they mean you)
I think it would help if you posted why you find Knoxville boring and what you like to do (age probably plays into it to) My son is in Knoxville, twenty-something, very into local outdoor activities like hiking and skiing, is around a lot of people his age because of the college, etc,and he does not find it boring at all, so it's going to vary depending on what sort of things you enjoy.

Also have to say the comment you made about fast paced with brains, yeah, that attitude might be a part of the problem. Just because southerners talk slow doesn't mean they are dumb, and it's hard for people to be friendly when they know you stereotype them like that. Trust me on that, as one former yankee to another
