Budget is $500-$600 rent per month, another $200-$300 for utilities (on average; I definitely need my air conditioning and in my experience heat's never really included even though it's claimed to be)...sorry, this is all new to me as I've been a lifelong NYC resident but the city's like a wife who's grown apart from me, we gotta divorce....
Will even go up to $700 but really don't want like half my monthly net income of $1900 being taken up with the basic living expenses besides food (namely, rent and utilities). Really can't afford to! (Don't you worry too much, though; I got a plan to learn computer programming this year and move on up into a higher tax bracket by the next!)

Friend tells me his friend got a whole house with a pool in the backyard for $600/mo. somewhere in the Southwest...I have begun lookin' there as well!!

I think Irvington has crime issues, but I don't think Kingston is that bad.

I also think a part of the problem is that you have to look at places in the Interior Northeast that are more likely to fit. So, a place like this may be a potential fit: Longley Jones Management Corp. - Apartments - Standard Apartment Housing - Utica/Rome - Candlewyck Apartments
