Remember than many Millenials are only from age 20 to 25, many are still in school. Only the oldest of us, like me, are entering post entry level work status. My wife now makes $40k and is 31.

Pretty much any state rankings I see of anything I am reminded of the following joke:

Indiana: we're better than Kentucky

Kentucky: we're better than West Virginia

West Virginia: what's a state?

Most Millennials are adults now, so studies showing their incomes have some, if not a lot of, validity.
13-31 aren't known as the optimal time to be generating an income. True any compentant ones out of college should be making at least 3 times that number, there are only 8-9 years of Millenials out of school by your nu!knees.

More than half of melinnials are out of school now. Half are past college years and a large chunk didn't go to college.

Regardless you're not going to get an accurate picture of the economic situation surrounding millennials when almost half of them are still supported by their parents or student loans. Additionally if you went by the 1984 start year you suggested this "average income" would be even lower as you'd remove the top earners furthest along in their career paths from the study. This metric is useless.
