I would like to work in the veterinary field in a zoo, animal rescue, or aquarium setting. My partner and I are trying to find places that would have the most work opportunities for me, and then see if they might work for us both overall. So right now I am looking for ideas of small to mid-sizes cities that have an aquarium AND a zoo - anywhere in the U.S. Bonus if there's a wildlife rescue too! I am hoping some of you might live in places like this and want to share - I appreciate any suggestions!

As a note, city or town size is flexible as long as it's not a big, expensive metro area like Boston or San Diego. COL in those areas is too prohibitive for us unfortunately.

Cincinnati has both, the zoo is a bit north of downtown and the aquarium is just south of downtown in Newport KY.

Chattanooga has a very well known aquarium and a zoo. I think is qualifies as a medium sized city.

My first thought as well. Chattanooga is a gem.

If an area has one of each in different parts of the metro, would that count? I only ask because Buffalo has a zoo and Niagara Falls has an aquarium. Welcome To The Buffalo Zoo

Aquarium of Niagara

This is south of Buffalo: Fox Wood Wildlife Rescue

Also, this small metro has these 2 facilities: Fort Rickey Children's Discovery Zoo | A special kind of zoo with a focus on children and fun

Home - Utica Zoo

Baltimore has one of the top aquariums in the U.S. on a pier of the Inner Harbor. The city has a pretty good zoo as well.

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is typically ranked in the top 10 zoos in the US, and the zoo contains an aquarium. Omaha is an under-rated city, with a very reasonable COL.
