Flagstaff, Prescott, Prescott Valley and Cottonwood are actually better fit in western Colorado than AZ in my opinion because of the climate, terrain and recreation. Cities like Grand Junction, Montrose, Durango and Cortez are interchangeable with northern AZ. People who have never been to AZ think the state has mostly cactus and desert, not rocky terrain and snowy mountains. I'll compare them with pictures.
I just read that comment somewhere. Oh, it was before the Pitt- Penn State game this past weekend. I read an article about there rivalry and one of the people interviewed for it - a former Pitt player, said the same thing.
Although conventional wisdom will say Austin, it just feels more "Texan" than Dallas IMO. There is definitely a degree of generic American culture in Dallas, but even the unique areas don't feel very Texan. The music history of Deep Ellum is not your stereotypical Texas country music. It was a blues neighborhood, which is what most people wouldn't associate with Texas IMO.
I never think of NYC as part of the State of New York. NYC is more a global/world city than belonging to any state. This of course from an individual that just "lives" in Manhattan about 2 weeks a year. Maybe the outer boroughs are different? But in Manhattan I hear other languages spoken as much or more than English. Love the food!
Chicago to Illinois
NYC to NY State
Cleveland to Ohio
Atlanta to Georgia
New Orleans to Louisiana
St. Louis to Missouri
Milwaukee to Wisconsin
And for those who know what it is, Rapid City to South Dakota.
