Do you think Cleveland is still the premier cultural, economic and social hub in Ohio?
What about Memphis for Tennessee?
or Charlotte for NC?
Is St Louis still the premier city on Missouri, or has KC surpassed it as the cultural center of the state?
Discuss this or any other change in the pecking order except LA/SF because that is discussed too much.

Nashville has definitely overtaken Memphis in influence.

I don't think Charlotte is about to lose its prominence anytime soon.

Ohio has always been pretty decentralized hasn't it?

Cleveland is definitely the premier city of Ohio.

Between it's food scene, beer scene, the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Playhouse Square, Hopkins Int'l Airport, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and all of the hotels being built, Cleveland has a lot going for it.

KC is not even close to St. Louis in cultural prominence. St. Louis has about a million more people and 150+ years of history on KC.

Texas: Austin is making serious strides on Houston and Dallas. I believe it's already surpassed San Antonio for prestige within that state.

I don't see a scenario in the coming 20 years where Austin surpasses Dallas or Houston in prestige. They aren't exactly stagnating themselves.

If you go by the criteria the OP used in economics, social, and cultural then no, Austin will never surpass Dallas or Houston.

It already has though when it comes to attractiveness to Millennials. Dallas and Houston are growing fast and lots of people are moving there for jobs, but people don't dream of living in those cities like they do Austin.

There are people who dream of living in cities like Austin? First I heard of that. Economically? No. Austin is not on the level of Dallas or Houston so it can't become the premier city there. Culturally? No. Austin is not on the level of Dallas or Houston here either. Socially, this is where Austin is probably closer if not slightly more ahead of Dallas and Houston. But this comes with the overhyped territory that Austin exudes here. Still a great city but it really isn't much different than the other big cities especially Houston or Dallas.

StL is still far larger than KC, especially in Missouri. Almost twice the size of KC in MO.

Nashville has recently surpassed Memphis in Tennessee.

NW Arkansas will likely surpass Little Rock in the future.

Tulsa and OKC are almost identical in size, but are still very different from each other. OK is still a bi-polar state.
