Basically, there has been discussion about how certain cities are horrible because the public transportation system is weak. So I would like to know what the majority of city-data members use to get around to work, school, the grocery, the baseball game, movie theater, etc..... Just everyday type things. So the question is what is the MAIN form of transportation you use to get around in your city and where you live?
I use a combo depending on the weather and what I have to do. Most of the time, I walk and catch the subway. Sometimes I take a bus instead of walking if the weather is bad. Sometimes I bike on really nice days when I don't have to do. Sometimes I walk the entire way for the exercise. Rarely, I drive but I do if I have to go somewhere after work not convenient to metro. (Baltimore)
the L is right outside of my window. i do have to transfer to a bus to get to work, but most places I end up going does involve the L first, so i voted subway. i do not have a car nor do i want one.
I voted subway too. We might have a different name for it here, but by me it is indeed a subway I go underground to catch. I also take the bus a lot too.
I don't have a car either (and haven't for most of my adult life) and only drive, on average, a few times a year.
The transportation system in Chicago is on the verge of collapse, so needless to say, I'm a bit nervous.
Gosh I love having options. Assuming we'd define the Chicagoland Metra commuter trains as "Light Rail" (though I guess they're technically heavy rail, so I guess they'd fall under "train") and call the El a "subway", I've used every single one of these options within the last month. In fact, within the last two weeks. Except for "ferry". Nowhere to ferry to or from.
I walk everyday to almost everything. Sometimes I take the T and very rarely I rent a car if I want to visit somewhere outside of Boston. Otherwise, it is my own two feet. Love it.
