Nashville seems to have a thing for naming every 4 blocks of the city.
Midtown Nashville consists of a bunch of fairly distinct neighborhoods: West End, Music Row, Elliston Place, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, West End Park (the neighborhood west of Centennial Park), Hillsboro Village, and Church Street (Nashville's small gay business district). All are located in area 3 of that map that was provided sandwiched in between Charlotte Pike, 21st Ave., the 65 loop and I-440. Nashville is very much a city consisting of a bunch of pocket neighborhoods, IMO. Many of these small 'hoods have their own signs delineating them.

I spent a summer living in Hillsboro Village and loved every minute of it. If I had the pleasure of living in Nashville again, I would definitely live in that part of town.

I think this may be the first American Midtown.

Midtown Manhattan (NYC)

Midtown Atlanta is kind of like an extension of Downtown but also its own distinct neighborhood. It really began booming in early '90's around the time Downtown Atlanta was mostly stagnating. Today it is in tight competition with downtown as Atlantas leading business center. Downtwn which is on the rise now leads in hotels and entertainment. Midtown leads in shopping, dining and living (condos, apts, etc.)

nothing we specifically call "midtown". We have an "uptown" and in between uptown and downtown there's lincoln park, lakeview, etc.
