Cities: Detroit #1 underlined with exclamation point, Memphis, Washington DC, New Orleans, Cleveland, Miami, Jacksonville, Newark, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Gary IN, East St Louis IL

Other areas: Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, most of Texas, Michigan's UP, northern Wisconsin, northern Minnesota, and coastal Georgia

Quite a list but that still leaves plenty of places I'd gladly move to.

I guess a lot of you love high crime areas.

I prefer a safe environment. Cities are nice to visit, not to live. Therefore, I would never live in any city anywhere. It's the suburbs or rural areas only....

I don't see how folks are so close-minded as to absolutely write off an entire city or for that matter a region. I love seeing new places, and I wouldn't mind living in any state, if only for a couple years.

I have traveled a good deal of the country, I prefer the west, it offers something that is unique and special that the rest of the country simply does not. California is where I will always live, work and play its unrivaled in my eyes and frankly I do not think any place on earth offers what we have here. Having said that, every state in the union offers something special, every state brings something to the table so I am not taking anything away from them.

No problem with that. California seems to be a very diverse state with something for just about everybody. I'd love to visit some day.

Detroit isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be, just saying for all those who fear it greatly. Downtown/Indian Village and numerous other areas actually have crime rates well below state average. The city itself always has something fun to do! I'm not saying it's better than anyone else's hometown, just saying give it a chance, come visit! From the 4 major sports teams to the riverwalk, the wonderful casinos and restaurants, the art and history museums and a hands on look at the city that fueled America through major wars and to economic prominence.

This is the side of Detroit a lot of people never see because they stick to the freeways:

Also, if Detroit isn't enough, Windsor, Ontario, often looked at as the Tijuana (much safer without bestiality, of course) of the north, is right across the border, believe it or not, to the south!

I've been back and forth a few times this week, trying to drink as much Ale8 as I can before I'm permanently a Michigander.
