This is just a fun little thread. Anyhow, can you name any U.S. cities, large, medium, and small sized, that have no rivers or natural bodies of navigable water.

A few I can think of are:
  • Las Vegas
  • Denver
  • Charlotte
  • Lexington, KY

Sturgis SD. We lived there as children and the only "river" was a concrete canal running through our neighborhood. It's been a long time, but other than ponds.... I cannot recall any large bodies of water.

Atlanta. Founded because of the railways.

Indianapolis. Supposedly the largest city not on navigable water.

I thought some of these cities listed had rivers. How about Phoenix? Does it have a river? I never thought so but I guess it could be one of those situations where the "river" is just a trickle in a large dry bed that only fills after substantial rainfall.

Columbus, Ohio. It became Ohio's capital because it was in the geographic center of the state.

Phoenix, Arizona

Dallas TX has the Trinity River (usally dry), Oklahoma City has the North Canadian River, Atlanta has the Chattahoocee, and Phoenix has the Salt River
