Almost anywhere in the Great Lakes region, up North, in the snow belt, where there's reliable snowfall for XC skiing: Duluth, Marquette, Traverse City, etc. Also, perhaps, the Driftless region of SW Wisconsin, for the liberal vibe. Wausau, also, or Eau Claire. Also also, upstate NY, Adirondack State Park; almost anyplace in Vermont.

Never, ever again, not no way, not no how: the desert Southwest, or most any place west of the Mississippi or south of Interstate 70.

I prefer all of those areas as well. I'm just north of the Ohio River and it might as well be Florida by my standards, way too warm.

Love the diversity of responses in this thread so far. It's also refreshing to see people who love their current home cities.

For me,

Miami Beach, FL or Sunny Isles Beach.

But I'd love to explore more of this great country before settling on my "dream place."
