This doesn't really go in neither the Arizona nor the California forum, so I will post it here.
I was wondering, does anyone think the U.S. OMB could define a Yuma-El Centro Combined Statistical Area in the future, consisting of the Yuma MSA and the El Centro MSA? I'm a bit surprised they haven't already, since Winterhaven borders Yuma but is part of the El Centro MSA due to being located in Imperial County, California, so I would think there would be a lot of commuting between Winterhaven and Yuma.
Both Yuma and El Centro are in the same Nielsen DMA for television, so I wonder why can't they be grouped at least in a CSA by the U.S. OMB.
No, it's very unlikely. CSAs are based on cross-commuting. And there's very little cross-commuting between them. Most of Imperial County lives in the Calexico-El Centro-Imperial corridor which is an hour's drive from Yuma. And between them is nothing. And there are no major prospects for Yuma suburbs (not counting whatever the heck Ross Corner is) on the California side since it's Native American land.
That would imply people actually want to live in Yuma or El Centro... That's funny.
