the confederate flag was put up by a Democrat governor Ernest Holling who also was a SC senator for decades, retiring in 2003 or so I believe. It wsa a Republican governor Beasley who had it removed from the sate house, and hat was over 10 years ago. So you don't even know it wasn't on the state house, it was on pole on the state house grounds, a confederate memorial area.

When the south was racist, it voted Democrat.

Many won't scratch the 'surface' but that doesn't change the history of SC. I understand Democrats like to conflate conservatism with bigotry for political purposes but it doesn't make any sense on historic terms. Democrats want to remove confederate symbols but they won't even change their party name even though it was the politiccal wing of the KKK, opposed anti-lynching laws, supported segregation and Jim Crow laws.

Tallahassee and Columbia are more affordable than Draper.

However, they both have very intense heat in the summers.

Winters will be somewhat milder in Draper than Bham, plus the winter sports are nice there.

It all depends on personal preference for these, but I would go with Draper in spite of expenses due to proximity to SLC and stunning nature/for me, the weather. SLC as a city/region offers a tremendous amount more than Columbia or Tallahassee in terms of city feel/amenities. I'm not much of a beach person though. If you like water activities, Tallahassee has lakes, a waterfall, rapids (sorta), rivers, ocean, and freshwater springs within an hour. Plus it and Columbia are college town state capitals, also have good sports. If living in Tallahassee, you could get great deals on in state tickets to theme parks a few hours south. However, Columbia is larger and offers somewhat more than Tallahassee in terms of city, and is less expensive. It also has perhaps the best location to experience everything, of this group, as you are a little under 2 hrs to both Charleston and beaches, and Greenville and mountains, the ladder which would help provide a reprieve in both summer (in Upstate SC's case) or winter in Charleston/south. Also, it's only 3 hours to Atlanta, a little over an hour to Charlotte, and for longer weekend trips, 7 hours to DC or 6 to Orlando.
