A couple years back I saw a list of top banks for every metro area . It was pretty interesting but I forgot where I found it.

U.S Bank is big here in Yakima WA. So is Banner Bank based out of Walla Walla.

Pittsburgh:
PNC - Pittsburgh National Corporation, owns this city, more than 50% of the Metro banks with PNC.
Citizens - Old Mellon Bank
Dollar Bank - even though First National has more deposit share, Dollar is more popular and known

Philadelphia:
Wells Fargo
PNC
TD
(Are the BIG 3 and most popular)
Citizens
BofA
(Are the top 5)


New York City:
Chase - Formerly Chase Manhattan, owns NYC, more than 30% of NYC banks with Chase.
BofA
Citi
(Are the BIG 3 and most popular)
TD
HSBC or Capital One (tie)
(Are the Top 6)

Washington DC:
Capital One
PNC
BofA
Wells Fargo
(Are the BIG 4 and Most Popular)

Any credit union or on-line bank. This, IMO, is the way to go if you want lower and/or no fees and higher saving rates.

That isn't what PNC stands for. Pittsburgh National and Provident National merged into the current bank simply known as PNC.
