West Virginia, Tennessee, Nebraska and the likes are lesser known. West Virginia is known for nothing, even its name is shadowed by Virginia. I wouldn't be surprised if ignorant Europeans mistook West Virginia as the western part of Virginia.
Being home to multiple prominent national parks, Wyoming and Montana are world famous for their natural beauty. Maine isn't bad either, celebrities like Stephen King and Anna Kendrick were born and raised there. Many of the stories in King's books took place in New England.

I'd say that WV is known for coal mining and its natural beauty/rugged terrain.
Delaware is forgotten about due to its size and location.
Delaware and Rhode Island. Maybe one of the redundant-ish plains states (Kansas or Nebraska) or redundant-ish southern states (Mississippi and Alabama).
