st. louis probably has more poor people than eht entire state of SC though. you don't talkl bout poverty in St. Louis and other states. Chicago has a lot of poor people, probably more than entire state of SC, same with NYC, etc.

No one claimed that "everybody that moves here from the north is affluent". You need to stop being so absurdly defensive, and face reality.

South Carolina is one of the poorest states in the U.S. The South, as a whole, is easily the poorest part of the U.S. Facts are facts.
I posted a list that showed California is the poorest and several other states outside of the south including Illinois and NY and PA. You ignored that b/c it doesn't fit your narrative.

Horrible logic. Are you unaware of the difference between count and %?

The U.S. has more poor people than Haiti, therefore the U.S. is poorer than Haiti.

India has more rich people than Switzerland, therefore India is richer than Switzerland.

you can't use number of affluent people to whitewash away the fact many states have a larger number of poor people.

If your state has more poor people in number it has more poverty.

It is so weird that you keep talking about rich people on a topic about poverty. is poverty not a big deal if there are also a lot of rich people.

No, you never posted such a list. You made that up.

California, NY, Illinois and PA are all fairly wealthy states. All those states are wealthier than any Southern state.

I did post the list, right off WIkipeida with some of you guys love to cite.

there are thousands more poor people live in the northeast and california than the south. that means it has more poverty. Poverty if a function of poor people.

there is no such thing as a 'poor state' though, people's wealth is individual, not collective on the state level. SOme people in the south are poor, but the largest class is middle class and then a god number of welahty people. You can't define a state by a small percentage of people.

my belief is some of you are using poor people as a prop to beat up on the south.

Except no one claimed this.

As long as you agree that the U.S. is poorer than Haiti, yes. As long as you agree that India is richer than Switzerland, yes.

I prefer to take % into account, so as to not arrive at such ridiculously absurd conclusions.

And, of course, your logic means the South is still the poorest region of the U.S., because the South doesn't just have the highest % in poverty, it has the highest number of people in poverty.

No, you didn't. You never posted anything showing comparative household income.

And, again, you're making up stuff. The South has the most poor people. More than California. More than New York. There is no possible way you can fudge the numbers- South has the highest % and the highest count.

ok, that doesn't make any sense.

states with higher population also have more poor people. this seems obvious.

i'm going to stop talking about this, b/c the entire point of threads like this is political in my view.

As a percentage no they don't. Missouri and Illinous aren't as poor as South Carolina in terms of a percentage of population. In fact those two states are about average in terms of poverty. They list at number 24 and 25 respectively on the list.
