California's #44?

Shocking, I tell you. Shocking!!!

It's notable that 16 of the top 20 states are conservative, and 4 of the top 20 (VA, NH, OH, NV) are arguably purple.

"The Mercatus Center was founded by Rich Fink as the Center for the Study of Market Processes at Rutgers University. After the Koch family gave more than $30 million to George Mason University, the Center moved there in the mid-1980s. It took its current name in 1999."

Not arguing with the findings but its important to note that think tank is pro-deregulation and clearly has conservative ties.

Is there a list that comes out from any organization that is neutral? I'm assuming based on your comment that if the organization were progressive in nature you would find it trustworthy, and not mention it?

North Carolina used to be a well run state until the crazies took over in 2010. At least NC women can now safely pee in public bathrooms with bearded trans men.

I don't really get where the hostility is coming from

I think its irresponsible to cite statistics and studies without considering the source at all. I am not disagreeing with Mercatus's findings or methods at all. I am simply stating the fact that they tend to lean conservative, receive money from the Koch brothers and are very pro-deregulation.

For the record if the study was conducted by a liberal think tank that received funding from George Zoros and was super pro taxation and bank regulations I would mention it.

That was a legitimate question, no hostile intent. If you read it that way then I poorly worded it. I was sincerely asking the question.

Woohoo my state is the 50th. Go Connecticut.

It'll only get worse as more people move out. They're not interested in lowering taxes for families and businesses. All the state does it spend spend spend. If they get a nickel, they spend a quarter.

Having complete neutrality is probably impossible or extremely difficult for any organization. I wasn't criticizing the list or saying it was invalid, just when viewing it it's important to know that the think tank that produced it has a clear agenda and is fiscally conservative in its ideology.

Like I mentioned in a previous comment, I would note the same distinction if the think tank had a clearly fiscally liberal agenda and affiliations.

LOL

Yeah, clearly no agenda then. I would take the findings with a grain of salt, especially with my home state of Florida ranked so highly. Our crook Governor and his lackeys running this state aren't operating under anyone's best interests other than their own.
