At what level do you most identify with?

The individual town or city you live in? The metro area? The state? Or the entire region?

If I had to rank it, it would probably go like this:

1) Metro: DC metro area
2) Area: Northern Virginia
3) City: Alexandria
4) State: Virginia
5) Region: East Coast

While growing up, I identified with metro area. (Canton)

Now, though, I identify with my city. (Youngstown)

I guess I identify with my own city, and my state, Colorado, more than my metro area, Denver. In fact, up here in Boulder County, a lot of people feel they are totally separate from Denver. I do not agree, but I don't feel I live in "Denver".

However, when I am out of state, I will usually say "Near Denver" when someone asks me where I live.

My area first.

Then my city.

Then Region.

And finally state.

When I lived in WI I identified with my city. Now that I live in Florida (and nobody is from here) I identify with being from the midwest. I currently live in the suburbs of Tampa-St. Pete, now I identify myself is living in the Tampa Bay area to outsiders, Pinellas County to people who live in Tampa, and North Pinellas to everyone else.

Complicated, huh?
