I was curious to see how far people live away from an international airport. Do you wish you lived closer to the airport? Does the distance from the nearest airport affect your decision to travel at all?
Places I've lived
NJ- 50 minutes/39.2 miles away from Newark Liberty International.
OH- 17 minutes/12.2 miles away from Port Columbus International.
D.C- 13 minutes/6.1 miles away from Reagan International.
FL- 50 minutes/46.4 miles away from Southwest Florida International.
I'm not sure about other states I lived in but all the places I've lived in St. Louis have been around 12 minutes from Lambert Airport. The closest being about 7 minutes because we always walked over there as kids to mess around in the pinball room. I was only on a plane twice, most of my travelling is by car.
40 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport (which is actually located in an outlying western suburb several miles from the city of Detroit), and no, I don't wish I lived closer. We don't fly enough for it to be a big deal if we have to drive 40 minutes to get there. It is a beautiful airport, though!
NJ - EWR 45 mins
CO - DEN 180 mins
TX - IAH - 20 mins
NJ - EWR - 30 mins
PA - ABE - 15 mins (But your cleared Custom/Imm in Canada)
GA - ATL - 45 Mins
NH - MHT - 20 Mins (But have not completed move to there yet) BOS - 60 Mins
I'm Fine with where I have lived, with relationship to the airports.
An hour and a half from an international airport but only 7 minutes from a good, smaller airport that can have me there in about 20 minutes - with excellent coordinating flights. We specifically chose this location because of it's proximity to the local airport (my husband flies a lot for work, but we didn't want to live any closer to Dallas).
I've gotten to and from PHL in 15 minutes going 80-85, but there's usually traffic at the PA border when lanes merge, and right by Chester and the Commodore Barry Bridge to New Jersey.
