The lists help me! I've been trying to figure out a great place to live for a year and don't have the money to travel to each place, so I search the web. I was told Georgia was beauitful and that the humidity isn't that bad.... I was living in California.
Ha Ha! I moved here site unseen and now I am jumping on forums like this and try to find better summer weather. I've been in GA for two months! Ya gotta have a place to start and those 10 best or even 100 best at least rule some out.
I was thinking of Flagstaff, AZ and I read somewhere that there are lots of drugs there. Dawgonit!
Just one person can't be the judge all, so I gotta do my research better this time, and yes, make a trip there first. Yes, I learned my lesson!

And what's interesting is that there's never a "top ten cities for normal, middle class married people with 2.5 kids." The lists are always geared towards the lesbian midgets with CPAs and the best suburbs for gay construction workers looking to adopt and play bingo. I never listen to the lists because they're never talking about me. And I'd NEVER live in most of the "desirable" cities listed. It's always Austin, Seattle, Portland and some obscure pick-a-suburb-any-suburub town in the midwest.

Lame.

I doubt people pay much attention to "10 best" lists. "10 wost" lists, however...

Oh, patharbison, you're judging Georgia on the two worst months of the year. Here in Alabama, schools started two weeks ago. We use Memorial Day (ending) instead of Labor Day (beginning) as a marker in order for the best weather in summer (or I assume that's the reason). You might like the rest of the year. You can actually go camping year round with different temperatures each season (Granted, in winter there's no guarantee that the temperature won't go into the low teens, but, hey, that's half the fun.).

Don't kid yourself. There's lots of drugs everywhere. Don't let that discourage you from moving somewhere.
