I saw a worst U.S. Highways thread so I thought I'd start a positive one. This can include U.S. Routes in addition to Interstate routes. For me, my top pick is U.S. 101 on the West Coast. I've never traveled it but the photos I've seen of it are breath-taking. It's on my top list of highways to travel. What about you?
We have traveled the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and 101 (I think) from Ventura to the LA area. It wasn't very far but it was beautiful.
I think US 64 from the Outer Banks to near Four Corners is an interesting highway. I don't know about best. There are a lot of beautiful roads in America and we are trying to travel all of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_64
We have also been from one end of I-40 to the other end. Love the sign out west that tells the distance to Wilmington, N. C. I tried to get a picture of it but we were going too fast for me to have time to focus.
We ate at Barstow on Mother's Day many years ago. Can't remember the name of the restaurant but it was near a service station just before getting on I-40. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_40
I like the I-17 freeway. From Phoenix to Flagstaff there is a 6k foot elevation climb in the span of two hours, it really shows how elevation can change dry climates in a short span of time, you go from urban and cactus-filled cities to Savannah-like areas with deep canyons to a huge pine forest with snow-capped peaks. It's not necessarily the most scenic but one of the most unique and interesting.
Any answer that isn't "The Blue Ridge Parkway" is incorrect.
nice enough but I've been on plenty even nicer
