Having home ownership (not just dumping $$ into the bottomless pit of renting) out of most people's reach, taxing people into oblivion, horrible buying power. When balancing out the quality of the arts, recreational assets, and such with the strong economies and lower costs of living and buying power of places like Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Nashville, etc., the "image" factor for NYC, BOS, SF, LA, ect. becomes ever-so glaring. Not many people say they long to move to NYC to raise their children, lol. The "Walmartland" crack sort of gives away to the fact that you're a victim of the "image" factor, lol. But I do agree, to each his own. I can see why some would be drawn to those concrete jungles. But most people don't, and I can see that too. We want good value out of our $$$. But if someone wants to pour money into the money pit of high taxation and needlessly high living costs to make them feel like they're "getting what they pay for", then they have that right. Again, to each his own. Ahhh, America!
You aren't going to get California weather anywhere outside California in this country, so to move somewhere else, you have to like or at least tolerate crappy weather

Crappy is in the eye of the beholder though. I have a sister who lives in LA, she loves the weather, I couldn't stand it. I'm a cold weather person so for me, LA weather would be "crappy."

To me, anywhere that is humid, regularly gets frost or snow, and doesn't have alot of sun is crappy, so for me, that leaves California, SWern Arizona and Las Vegas in this country
