The NE cities I mentioned are good in general for young, educated, and ambitious young black people. They also are all LGBT friendly and do have large black populations among their general diversity. I do not know, however, about the job market for vet technicians in any of them--or in Atlanta either, for that matter. Ithink I described winters accurately, and the OP will make his own decision about that.
As for New York being "a bit much" for a young newcomer? Puhleeze. Thousands of young people head here all the time and do just fine -- especially if they have a good education behind them.
But you are correct in that I should have said Pacific coast instead of Pacific Northwest cities. A small slip. And yes, I know San Jose is not on the Pacific. So sue me.
San Jose is about a 1/2 hour drive (assuming there's no traffic) from the Pacific ocean. So while it's not on the Pacific, it's rather close to it.
I hope, as a vet tech, you don't share your dads attitude about small dogs. Just saying.
Coastal California is extremely expensive. And the coast differs, ie; Southern California is quite different than where i am.
But if you're open and free spirited and want a more "live and let live" approach to life, i'd say go west young man.
No offense intended re; NYC. If you want to live in a big N.Eastern city and you feel ready to take NYC on, i'd choose it. But it does get cold in the winter.
While I dislike small dogs, my profession will have me dealing with them daily. So I tolerate them. I think they're cute from a distance.
