I agree, South Dakota has this one comfortably, Black hills alone gets them this. Indiana is number two, very peaceful pastoral countryside and it has some very pretty Ohio River towns. It is not exciting but its nice.
South Dakota! Some may consider it a "meh" state, but it's prettier (or at least has prettier areas) than many of the Midwestern or southeastern states. Even parts of "east river" are beautiful, with slow rolling green hills for miles.
The only state I know on the list is Nevada. I don't know the entire state, but the area around Lake Tahoe is gorgeous.
It's also pretty nice up on Mount Charleston, near Vegas, and over near Wheeler Peak. The majority of NV is throw-away basin and range, but there are some really spectacular parts, too.
