Hi

Just wondering what city would be the easiest financially to live in as a software developer (senior) in the USA. Right now I live in NYC and it's really really tough for even basic living.

Seattle (no state tax)
San Fran (more money)

Somewhere else?

So are you looking for a " tax heaven" state ?If so Alaska( Effective total state and local tax rate: 5.69%)
Delaware(6.02%), Montana(6.92%), Wyoming(7.45%), Nevada( 7.72%).

Perhaps a happy medium could be to live in the portion of Delaware in the Philadelphia metro area.

Put Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston on your list, but be prepared for a decent culture shock.

Raleigh and Durham. They have the Research Triangle Park with tens of thousands of employment opportunities in information technology. IBM, Cisco, NetApp, RedHat, Toshiba, Lenovo, etc.
