Name me a river that has a better collection of beautiful bridges than this!
Since you asked, The East River can definitely be a contender. I used to live in South Jersey and I’m familiar with all those bridges except the Commodore Barry which I’ve never been on. I think what makes the East River bridges special is that it’s a very small River that doesn’t even leave NYC so all these bridges are very close to each other. I’m not sure how many of these are actually well-known outside of the Brooklyn Bridge and maybe Manhattan Bridge though:

It was in LA LA Land movie. I thought it was called Pasadena Bridge aka Suicide Bridge.

The bridge had a bad reputation before it was even built, as a construction worker fell to his death and landed in the wet cement under the bridge, supposedly he is still there today. The number of deaths spiked during the Great Depression but didn't stop there.
The most known story is told about a woman and her child. One night, the mother took her child and herself to the bridge and was ready to end it all. She threw her baby first and then jumped, plummeting to her death. The child survived, as it landed in a tree unharmed, but the mother successfully ended her life.
I'm biased so I'll toss in the twin spans of the Chesapeake Bay bridge from Annapolis to MD's eastern shore. 3 bridges in one. And rated as one of the scariest in the country due to it's height in the suspension part.
Then I'll throw in the Bay Bridge tunnel from VA beach to VA's eastern shore. 17 miles long, a couple of tunnels and looking out at the Atlantic on one side and the Chesapeake on the other. Might even see warships pass by.

And I can't leave out the seven mile bridge inthe FL keys. The bridge itself is nothing special, just a sen mile , er, bridge. But the keys water clarity and color can not be ignored!
One that has gotten pretty much left out is the Ravenel Bridge in Charleston. Locals call it the Cooper River Bridge. I love the bridge and personally think it's one of the best sights in the whole state. Going over that bridge in the evening is amazing. I was lucky to be able to go over it everyday. It is the tallest structure in the state.
Charleston also holds the Bridge Run every spring if you're into 10ks, bridges, and southern charm. Wink. I also like the other usual suspects, though I was disappointed how hard it was to get a good view of NY over the Brooklyn.
