This one is in Lincoln Park, one of the most famous, and affluent neighborhoods in the city. Super walkable, and home to the best public schools in the city. Every school is between an 8 and 10 on Great Schools.
Oak Park is an urban, first ring suburb that's served by two CTA train lines...not the commuter rail, but the EL. School district is ranked 9/10 on Great Schools.
$499K, built in 1900, 2 Beds, 2.5 Baths, 1,656 Sq. Ft. Highly walkable historic neighborhood with gorgeous architecture. Walking distance to The Short North's art galleries, restaurants, nightlife, close to Goodale Park and The Ohio State University.
$485K, built in 2001, five bedroom home, 2.5 baths, 3,398 Sq. Ft. In one of the best school districts in the state and close to the town's Bridge Street District.

I assume you mean best homes in the BEST areas of the metro. Not just the best bang for your buck?
You can get a lot more for your money in the Chicago area, but right, not in those specific areas.
We bought a $588,000 condo in Lakeview, right near the boystown restaurants and bars, steps from Wrigley, a two minute walk from the train, yet on a nice tree lined residential street.
We got a 2,600 square foot upper 2 floors in a 5 floor 3-flat. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. A front private balcony off the living room, private deck off our bedroom and then a 400 square foot private rooftop off the 2nd floor looking out on the lights at Wrigley.
$588,000 seemed quite good for that quality in this neighborhood - but of course if you go west or south in the city you can get REALLLLY nice places for $588,000.
Feel free to show us the homes, but I'm not sure Lafayette, Louisiana qualifies as a major metro.
What's your cutoff for major metro? It's defined differently by pretty much everyone. The Census Bureau calls every metro 1 million+ major. The bar tends to be a bit higher on here.

My personal cutoff is around 2mil, but there are some fairly major cities with metros under that threshold (New Orleans, Austin, etc), so I'd be willing to accept 1mil+.
Lafayette's metro is under 500k.
