Living in Baton Rouge, having LSU football is like having a NFL team with all the media attention and big games LSU baseball is just as great and attracts media attention. Last season having Ben Simmons as the #1 pick was pretty cool too. LSU basketball is nothing compared to the dominant programs so it was different having lots of attention for those games. Then we have the Saints and Pelicans just an hour away.
I get what you mean, as Syracuse Basketball is viewed the same way that you mentioned about LSU Football. When LSU played Syracuse in Football last season, people were excited about about seeing Leonard Fournette and people come out for those games when teams like that come through.
Also, I get the Ben Simmons thing, as Syracuse's AAA Baseball team is affiliated with the Washington Nationals. so, when Bryce harper and Steven Strasburg were playing for the Syracuse team, the crowds were to full capacity and the media coverage increased.
Similarly, the Bills and Sabres are a couple of hours away in Buffalo. so, you can still get your pro/major league fix.
18,000 is plenty, Winnipeg, New York (2x), Boston, New Jersey, and Anaheim are some examples of NHL teams with a capacity at or under 18,000. and the Barkley's Center has under 18K in its basketball configuration as well.

Syracuse is one of those schools I was talking about in college basketball lol.
I'm glad yall had a good time seeing Fournette, he's a good kid.
New Orleans has a AAA team in the Zephyrs (not calling them the Baby Cakes thats the stupidest thing ever.) but they don't get much media coverage.
This may seem silly, but when moving away from Cleveland (with three professional sports franchises) to a State (Kentucky) which has zero, I lost a good chunk of entertainment.
My question is, what do people in cities or states without a Professional sports franchise do if they want to watch live game?? Are college sports teams more popular? Do they actually attend University sports team games? In Cleveland, I did not know anyone who regularly attended a Cleveland State basketball game or Kent State football game unless they were an alumnus or student.
Just something I was curious about, and wonder what everyone else thinks.
Mississippi State (college football) & San Antonio Spurs (NBA) fan here. Sometimes I go to there college football games or watch the games on television. As far as watching the Spurs games, I got the NBA League pass to catch there games on television. In Mississippi, college sports is popular.
College sports are way more entertaining and hype than professional sports. The only time pro sports can compete is when it's playoff time.
